When you buy a printer, one of the biggest (and recurring) costs
are certainly the consumables you use with the printer. More often than
not, ink cartridges tend to be too expensive, are tiny in size, are
awkward to install and get empty almost immediately.
To address this issue, Epson released a range of printers a couple of months ago that use the company's new integrated ink tank system, which the company claimed is easy to install, refill and works out much cheaper than actually buying new ink cartridges whenever your printer is low on ink.
The Epson L355 is a wireless all-in-one device that can print, scan and copy, and comes with an integrated ink system. The printer is aimed at home offices and small offices and features Micro Piezo printhead technology to offer better quality prints.
The design of the printer is very unique - on the outside, the L355 looks like an ordinary MFP, but with the ink tank outside the printer on the right side. The printer is also easy to set-up and use: simply fill the tank with the ink supplied with the printer, turn it on and let the printer charge the ink tank and its contents. Once that is done, you just go onto printing your documents.
Epson claims that with each refill, the L355 is capable of printing up to 4,000 pages in black and 6,500 pages in colour. The company claims that the printer also provides a fast print speed of 9ppm in best printing mode. In addition, Epson's iPrint allows you to print wirelessly from smartphones and tablet PCs.
In our real world tests procedure, we were able to clock print speeds of 33ppm for monochrome prints and 15ppm for colour prints, in draft mode. On normal print mode, we clocked 25ppm for monochrome and 10ppm for colour, which is quite good. The printer was also very silent when performing print jobs.
Just to add, the maximum resolution of the printer is 5760-by-1440-dpi, while the optical resolution of the scanner is 1200-by-2400-dpi. Overall, the L355 is not the fastest or the best quality MFP out there on the market, but if you are looking for a low cost option for your printing needs, you could check out the Epson L355 All in One Wi-Fi Printer.
