Nikon D3S

Overview

The Nikon D3s is one of the most advanced Digital SLRs on the market. It is packed with features that are likely to appeal to you even if you are the most discerning professional photographer.

The D3s is set up to handle fast moving action. This coupled with its rugged build quality makes it a good choice for sports and wildlife photographers at the top end of the profession. Speed is catered for through a burst mode that is capable of capturing shots at a rate of 9 frames per second. This is supported by a 51 point Auto Focus system. This has four dynamic modes and 15 cross type sensors. The magnesium alloy body helps to protect the D3s from the bumps of life out in the field.

Sometimes it is the features tucked away in the specification that are really quite significant. In this case these include the dual Compact Flash slots and a battery that is powerful enough to take 4200 shots on a single charge. Having dual Compact Flash slots gives you options for backup as well as overflow.

Other features include 12 megapixels and a 3 inch LCD screen. The viewfinder offers 100% coverage. Lowlight conditions are catered for with ISO settings operating between ISO 200 and 12,800. This range is expandable up to ISO 102400.

As is now the norm with high end Digital SLRs, Nikon has given the D3s the capability to capture High Definition movies. It is capable of recording at 24 frames per second. It is also able to record stereo sound.
